Fine-Cut Indian Tobacco
Branding, Hand lettering, Illustration, packaging, 3D modeling
Problem: Native Lands is a small craft tobacco company located in Lexington Kentucky. While the brand itself was founded in 1904, the company had died off in the 80s. Just recently being reborn. The founders wanted to give a nob to the strong heritage the Native Lands brand itself offers with a branding system and packaging that resembled that of the early 1900s.
Solution: Boxing Worm approached this project in the same lens as a designer in the early 1900s by using the same techniques they would have used, hand drawn typography and illustrations. We studied vintage Americana packaging and took inspiration from hand lettered signs and what the region of Eastern Kentucky would have been like before Prohibition. We wanted to give Native Lands a wide range of branding assets to use across their packaging while giving the brand a trustworthiness that would have came from the original brand founded in 1904.
Results: A full brand system that looked to the past to create a brand that can stand the test of time. The brand system is flexible and fully responsive to be used across a wide variety of mediums and packaging. The packaging stands out in the category and communicates the craft brand and its premium products.
